About us

Be Seduced by the Intense Flavors of Exotic North India

Our Indian restaurant has been a favorite among Santa Barbara locals and tourists for over 35 years. Family-owned and award-winning, this welcoming restaurant showcases traditional recipes at their finest in a cozy, friendly setting. We use natural herbs, fresh produce, and high-quality meats to bring you authentic North Indian dishes filled with exotic flavors and tantalizing aromas. Our dishes are crafted to be flavorful rather than overly spicy, but we are happy to adjust the spice level to suit your taste.

To imagine life in India, one must engage all the senses. Picture the vibrant colors of women's saris-blues like peacock feathers, yellows like mustard spice, and reds reminiscent of paprika-or the crisp white cotton of men's garments and the turbans crowning their cocoa-toned faces. Hear the bustle of spice markets, the honking of horns on crowded streets, or the hushed flutter of wings and the quiet of sacred temples. Feel the warmth of the sun and the smoothness of a Buddha statue. Inhale the aroma of cardamom, cinnamon, and ginger steeping in a cup of chai, and savor bold seasonings enjoyed with soft, freshly baked naan

Santa Barbara's Flavor of India may be half a world away from its namesake, but guests can still immerse themselves in the rich culinary traditions of India-right here on State Street. Everything we make is from scratch-even the cheese used in our saag paneer (spinach cooked with homemade cheese and seasoned with herbs). Our chefs skillfully use two traditional tandoori ovens. Glowing coals at the base cook skewered meats, while the oven walls are used to bake breads like chapati, garlic naan, and aloo paratha-a stuffed flatbread filled with potatoes, peas, and spices.

This cuisine is also known for its curries, lentil-based dishes, and raita-fresh homemade yogurt with cucumber and herbs-all featured on our extensive menu. Vegetarian favorites include baingan bharta (tandoori-roasted eggplant), dal makhani (slow-cooked lentils delicately seasoned), and chana masala (chickpeas in a spiced sauce). Add shrimp, lamb, or chicken to create an even heartier meal. With so many local favorites, there's always something new to discover. Guests can explore a variety of flavors through our combination entrées, enjoy our popular lunch buffet, or order à la carte-and return again and again.
